82 companies based in West Yorkshire entered administration, creditors’ voluntary liquidation or compulsory liquidation in October 2026, according to a count of insolvency notices published in The Gazette. The total was down 8.9% from 90 in September 2026 and down 15% from 96 in October 2025.
That was 62 creditors’ voluntary liquidations, 12 compulsory liquidations and 8 administrations.
By council area, Leeds had the most, 41, followed by Bradford (20), Calderdale (9) and Wakefield (8).
Construction accounted for the largest number, 22, followed by accommodation and food services (14) and wholesale and retail trade (12).
Separately, 26 solvent companies in the area began members’ voluntary liquidations, against 11 in September 2026 and 15 in October 2025. A members’ voluntary liquidation closes a company that can pay its debts in full, so these are solvent closures and are not counted as insolvencies.
A further 25 winding-up petitions against companies in West Yorkshire were published. A petition does not by itself mean a company is insolvent.
Companies are placed by the trading address in the notice where the full notice has been read and gives one, otherwise by the location The Gazette records for the notice or the registered office held by Companies House, which for some companies in liquidation is the office of the insolvency practitioner. Fewer notices from earlier months have been read in full, so their area figures rely more on The Gazette’s recorded location. Each company is counted once per procedure in the month. These are Gazette notice counts, not the Insolvency Service’s official statistics.
