PureGym, the low-cost gym operator headquartered in Leeds, has signed an agreement to buy NonStop Gym (NSG), a Swiss fitness business with 47 sites, for £235m.
The company announced the deal on 15 October 2026 and said the transaction is expected to complete on 2 November 2026. It said the combined business will have more than 100 gyms in Switzerland by the end of 2026, making PureGym the largest low-cost gym operator in the country.
From one Leeds gym to six markets
PureGym says it started in 2009 with one gym in Leeds. It now describes itself as a community of more than 700 gyms with 2.4 million members. As at 30 June 2026 it operated in the UK (467 gyms), Denmark (128), Switzerland (49) and the US (61), with a further 23 gyms in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates run with a franchise partner.
The Swiss deal follows PureGym’s purchase of Blink Fitness in the US in 2024. NSG was founded in Switzerland in 2014 and has more than 100,000 members, with its strongest presence in French-speaking Switzerland. PureGym’s existing Swiss gyms are in the German-speaking regions.
PureGym said it intends to keep NSG’s operational capabilities and team, and that NSG will be rebranded as PureGym in due course.
Alex Wood, chief executive of PureGym, said: “This acquisition is an important step in PureGym’s international growth strategy and demonstrates our continued ambition to invest in attractive markets where we believe we can build strong, sustainable businesses.”
The group is majority owned by Leonard Green & Partners, and KKR became a significant minority investor in December 2021, according to the release.
